Agricultural Day Speech Bubble Writing

We have been learning about punctuation, using question marks and exclamation marks to help add expression in our writing. We took interesting photos from our school Agricultural Day and thought about what the animals might have been thinking when the picture was taken.  We had to include exclamation marks and question marks, but also think about which speech bubbles would match with what the animals are saying or thinking. Have a look at our video to see how they turned out!

First Aid course

Today we had Dave from St John's come and teach us about how to act in an emergency.

We learned how to bandage cuts tightly. We practiced on each other making sure we kept our snail shape with the bandage and tucked the end in to keep it secure. We Learned that once the cut is bandaged the person should keep their injury elevated to help slow down the bleeding.

We practiced making calls to the emergency services by dialing 111 and following these steps... 1) Letting them know if we need the police, ambulance or fire engine. 2) Telling them your address. 3) Telling them your phone number. 4) Telling them what the emergency situation is.

We were also able to explore Dave's ambulance and see all the different tools and equipment, including a telephone in the back that talks to the hospital. Mr Harrop was even allowed to sit in the driver's seat and put on the lights and sirens he had a blast!

Tidy Kiwi Investigations....

We in Room 3 pride ourselves on a tidy classroom. Every afternoon we work hard to ensure our room looks its best before we leave.

Often at assemblies we wonder why we don't win the Tidy Kiwi award, so we wrote Mr Coley the caretaker at our school this letter:

Dear Mr Coley

We are writing to you to find out more about Tidy Kiwi.
Do you check the rooms every day? Leo thinks you only check on Thursdays, is this true? We think we tidy our class well every day, what more can we do to improve? How important is a tidy cloak bay and the outside area around it? We share our cloak bays and Kowhai area with Rooms 1 and 2 does this effect our chances of winning? Also are we being judged on the toilet area?
We would love for you to come visit us in Room 3 to talk about this further.

Yours sincerely

The people of Room 3

Mr Coley wrote a letter in reply saying he would love to come and see us and discuss the Tidy Kiwi process.....

Mr Coley explained to us our responsibilities in tidying up our room and the cloak bay areas. He also made useful suggestions about picking up larger pieces of paper that hide under the tables as the vacuum cleaners find our new carpet difficult to clean.

Mr Coley reminded us that there are eight classrooms in our school that do a great job in cleaning their learning environment s and to win Tidy Kiwi takes a lot of hard work.

We found out that Mr Coley checks the classrooms everyday but doesn't make the final decision until Thursday afternoon.

We were very grateful that Mr Coley took the time to come and talk with us about Tidy Kiwi and the ways we could improve our own efforts.

Road Safety Puppet Show

Today we had Dan the Puppet Man come and visit to teach us about road safety with all his puppets. Porangi Pukeko was a funny bird who didn't know much, but we helped him learn about staying safe by stopping, looking and listening at the side of the road to check if it's safe then walk calmly across.
